Dogs, Dogs & More Dogs

by Connor, age 3

There was a boy named Connor. Connor was three years old. One day, he took a long walk with his mommy. His mommy wouldn't let him bring his dog Mercury with him, even though he really wanted to bring Mercury.

On the walk, he met a lot of other dogs. By the time he had arrived back at home, he had met twenty dogs! He met big dogs, little dogs and medium sized dogs. He met dogs with short legs, dogs with long tails and dogs with floppy ears, and he also met dogs with long legs, short tails and straight ears. He met dogs with rough fur and dogs with soft fur. He met dogs with long fur and dogs with short fur. He met brown dogs, black dogs, yellow dogs, ginger-colored dogs and even white dogs. He met puppies, young dogs and old dogs too.

Only two dogs were unfriendly and had owners that wouldn't let him pet them. All of the other dogs let Connor pet them and were very friendly. One small black puppy gave Connor dog kisses! When a dog licks you, it is his way of kissing you, and the little puppy licked Connor's cheek. It jumped up to do it and surprised Connor, but Connor laughed and was happy.

Even though Connor got to meet all of those dogs, he still missed his dog Mercury. Mercury was a very fluffy collie. And Mercury loved to go for walks with Connor.

When Connor got home, he met one last dog. It was Mercury! Connor went straight into the house and hugged his dog Mercury and played with him, because he really loved his dog.

Toy Trucks & Toy Helicopters

by Connor, age 3

There was a four year old boy named Tyler who loved race cars. He wanted to drive a race car, but he didn't have one, so he walked instead. One day he walked to the store. It was a long walk.

When Tyler got to the store, he looked at all of the toys. He really liked a really big toy truck that he found, and he also really liked a really big helicopter that he found. The truck was red and the helicopter was blue.

He wanted to buy them, but he didn't have any money. He looked on the floor to see if there was any money that people had dropped, but he didn't find any money. He wasn't able to buy the toy truck and helicopter.

He walked home and told his mommy all about the toys that he wanted, and he asked her if she would buy them for him. She told him that she didn't have any money either. That made him sad, but his mommy told him he should wait and see if he got the toys for his birthday.

When his birthday arrived, his mommy had bought him the big red toy truck and the big blue toy helicopter that he wanted! He was so happy, and he played with them all day!

A Good Summer With Teddy

A Good Summer With Teddy
by Gabriella, age 7

One day, I was going to the beach for the whole summer. I had to pack loads of clothes and things. I didn’t forget to bring my teddy bear. His name was Teddy, and he was very special to me. When it was time to go, we took a truck to the beach, because we had lots of boxes of our things to bring with us for the summer.

It took four hours to get there. During those four hours, I did some drawing and I played with Teddy and some of my other toys. I also read a book that took me a whole hour to read.

When I got to the beach, we parked the truck and then had to walk a small distance to the hotel. The hotel manager said we had to go to room 616 on the top floor. We opened the door, and we unpacked our things. It took us a whole afternoon to unpack out things.

After we unpacked our things, I picked up Teddy and he was alive! I was very surprised to see him moving on his own! He spoke to me and we had a long chat. He explained that sometimes on very special days during the summer toys can come alive.

We went to the beach again, and we started to build sand castles. When it was 7:00pm, we went back to the hotel because it was bed time. It was a wonderful day playing with Teddy on the beach, and I hoped that he would be able to come alive again someday.

The Mermaid & The Boy

The Mermaid & The Boy
by Isabella, age 4

There was a pretty mermaid named Jackie and she saw a boy sleeping on the beach. The ocean’s waves were getting closer to him. The ocean wanted to sweep him away, but she didn’t want him to drown. She couldn’t go on the beach so she sang a song to wake him up.

She sang the “Happy Birthday” song but with different words. She sang,
“You are asleep,
And the ocean
Is coming.
You are asleep,
But you need to
Wake up soon.”

He woke up and saw the waves getting close to him. He stood up, but slipped as the water reached his feet and fell into the water. The ocean’s waves quickly tried to pull him out to sea.

As he swam back to shore, he saw the pretty mermaid Jackie and he knew it had been her song that woke him up and saved him from being swept out to sea while he slept. He never forgot her.

Story Magic

Another story that Isabella told me was a dream she had last night.

Story Magic
by Isabella, 3 yrs. old

There was an evil magician who was short and fat. He got his magic from his magic wand. He liked doing evil things. Because unicorns were full of good magic, he found a unicorn and used his wand to send it into the pages of a story. I tried to stop him by telling him he was a naughty man, so he sent me into the story too. From inside the book, I tricked him. First, I asked him what his evil plan was. When he tried to tell me, I pretended that I couldn’t hear him. He zapped himself into the book to explain his plan to me. I grabbed his magic wand and used it to send the unicorn back into the real world and then I sent myself out of the book too. The evil magician was trapped in the book forever.

A Ladybug Named Docky

by Isabella (age 3)

Once there was a little tiny ladybug. Her name was Docky and she twirled around. A fairy turned her into a frog, and she hopped around saying, “Ribbit.” She didn’t like being a frog. After a while, she turned back into herself again. She was so happy to be herself again that she started dancing on her toes, twirling and kicking her legs.

The Giant Teddy Bear

Isabella, my three year old, told me a story today based on a dream she had last night.

The Giant Teddy Bear

There once was a giant teddy bear. It hugged me. It hugged me so tight that I couldn't breath. I needed to get away, so I turned myself into a monster. When the giant teddy bear didn't run away, I stomped my feet fast and loud on the ground. I scared the giant teddy bear away.

A little boy who had been scared of the giant teddy bear came over and thanked me. I turned back into a girl again, and the little boy kissed me on my cheek.

We both grew wings and flew away.

Marbles & Flowers

Gabriella wrote this when she was three years old (almost four). It is one of my favorite stories from her that she wrote at that age. (She dictated the story to her daddy and he typed it up.)

Marbles & Flowers
by Gabriella

There once was a really beautiful fairy named Gabriella. She was playing marbles in the sky with God. Rumbles of thunder could be heard as marble crashed against marble. Later, she found a flower that belonged to her friend and had been left by her friend for Gabriella to find. Gabriella wanted to show God her flower. When she got to his house, she had a nice cold drink as it was a hot day.
